so i purchased my car about 6 months ago, and i dont think im ever going back to any other kind of car. i love my car, but it has a few problems. The biggest being the gear selector problem. when i puchased the car, the black cover that keeps the gear selector covered was broken. i really didnt care too much about it then. but now it is a problem. On the dashboard where it lights up which gear you are in, sometimes that light is always on, sometimes its not. I was mostly wondering if i could replace the gear selector. I have search endlessly through google, and havent found one for my year car. The car works without it, but it would be nice to know that i am able to use sport and bump shift. because all i can do right now it drive, neutral, and park. im hoping its not an issue with the computer in the car, because that would be a pain to fix. And most likely would cost too much for me. Thanks.

That light is just a cable connected to the ignition to show that you can't start while in gear. If the cover is broken, that meant the cover had been removed to fix something under there before. Lift the cover up and see what's under there.

I have not opened mine, but I've open an A6 cover before, there's nothing to it, just make sure you don't break any cover. Check the forum on how to remove the cover. It must be the switch that's loose or not making contact or even broken.

where can i get a new black plastic sliding piece, the one shown in the picture(it looks like a roll top to a wood desk). i cant find anywhere that sells it, that is my problem.
