Auto transmission fluid too full?
Hi All - Total noob here. Please forgive me if this has already been asked and answered - if so, I just haven't found it yet. My CVT has been shuddering for over a year now. I did take it to an Audi specialist shop (not dealer) and they refused to change the fluid as it had some metal in the sample they took, so I decided to just live with it until it dies. So far not dead. I had a similar problem with our Mini Cooper's CVT and was able to eliminate it by adding Oil Extreme, so I figured "why not" and went to add it to the Audi tranny. I've read all the procedures for changing the fluid and how to tell the fluid level. In short they all seem to say fill until the fill plug starts to drain out again. My issue is ... WHen I opened the fill plug a lot of fluid drained out - over a quart before I decided to stop it by putting the plug back in. Seems to me that the tranny has way too much fluid in it. Has anyone experienced this? Should I pull the fill plug again and let it drain until it stops on to own?
P.S. The engine and tranny was cold, so hot fluid wasn't the reason it overflowed. And yes, I'm sure I pulled the right plug. I don't have the required tool to remove the actual drain plug.

You did not specify year model, engine size and chassis.
If you are sure you accessed the level plug next to the drain plug and your car is level following the link below for 2001 to 2006 Audi A4 1.8T A6 with CVT as an example, go for it.

Are you sure it was the fill plug you opened and not the drain plug?
BTW it's well worth draining and refilling as DIY job, it'll onlly cost you about £50-60. I did mine and the changes are now much smoother and it will prolong the life even if it is on the way out.
