Glass rear window on conv top falling off
#11
Solution
After much argument and many phone calls I was able to get the dealership and Audi to agree to pay for the part ($3500) and I have to pay the labor. Better than me paying the full $4200, but in my opinion I should not have to pay anything. Anyhow, for $650 I guess I can deal with it...

how on Earth could a window falling out be a wear item???
I know that was throw out just as an idea...
But, seriously, it is not as if this is some gear or part that not even SHOULD wear...
A part that is not involved in the operation of the top -- and that passive part then just falls off -- can't be called a wear item...
But, I figure lawyers can call anything anything they want....
If they can dream it up, it can be a wear item...

Re: This literally just happened to me
Ditto. I noticed it for the first time today. THe whole lower have completely detached. I take my car to the car wash frequently and it really has been very hot lately. Audi has blamed it on the car washes and the heat so of course they won't help. I told a collegue about it and he turned me on to the following TT forum and they too are having the same problems...they have all had success with either gorilla glue or goop. below is link if you want to check it out. I might try it myself. http://www.audittcca.com/discussions/auditt/00008634
good luck.
good luck.

Thanks - my report
santa monica audi agreed to "good will" 75% help with the cost. still 1100 - 1300 $. they also said they may not replace the whole thing to save cost so it might be less. so - i will determine exactly what i am getting from them but might try the goop and wait and see. i can get a whole new top installed for 1575$ at el segundo interiors. have not decided yet what i will do - i really appreciate the advice on glue.

Re: Glass rear window on conv top falling off
Same thing happened to my 2003. It started at 55K. I believe I am going to try marine epoxy. I have used it in other applications and it worked well. If it doesn't work or I mess it up... I couldn't have made things worse!

Possible Solution
3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive, rather than goop or gorilla glue. I spoke to Dow Chemical's technical support and they guy gave me a lot of info, and after awhile we settled on the 3M product. However, you reall need to be careful with the stuff - highly toxic. My buddy at work is great with any kind of project and he's going to try it. I have 2 weeks to tell the dealer if it works or if I accepr their good will offer of $ 1100 - $ 1300 to fix it.

Re: Thanks - my report
FYI...I also have a 2003 A4 Cabrio with only 47K on it. In June my rear window started to come away from the convertible top, I have tried goop it worked for about 2 months and the window has now become detached on the sides yet again. I am now toying with using a 3m product as well as interviewing upholstery shops in the area to see if one of them could stitch the window in. That's my two cents.
