I have a '04 A4 quattro thats been my workhorse for years. Recently I've run into a few issues with the cooling system - most recently (and seemingly the culmination of all the other issues), is my left fan and associated control module are inoperative. The catch is that I'm an airline pilot and this is my airport car...so i don't think I'll be able to schedule a fix for a week or two. In the meantime, I'm either driving it minimally or its sitting at the airport.

My questions are - is the left side fan the main or auxiliary fan? The shop that diagnosed said that it should be ok for now as long as I'm not sitting in traffic...I'm in western WA, so it doesn't get super hot out. Does that seem about right?

Appreciate the help. I really love this car and don't want to get rid of it (tough to find 6-speed manuals anymore), but the thought has crossed my mind lately.
