OK - I like starting slow and working my way towards final resolution. I know I can post in the VCDS section of this site but it seems to be lightly attended. I will start here, then go there... then go to Ross-Tech. I like sharing in the community for others to find that which I suffer through. So here is one Malfunction that I would like to share. I will add my 2 cents and look for consensus from the real Brain Trust - this community...

Here is a truncated log of this particular malfunction. This is after a complete clearing of all faults (because I was getting a boatload after the 2013 ECM recall of the past couple of months). There were a few drive cycles before I measured again. Here it goes:

So, this seems to be an Immobilizer Unit.

Looks to be in the steering column? I will check my Shop Manual. But, what should I expect from this failure? All I know is that I have the occasional experience - My Advanced Key sometimes is not recognized at start. The MMI asks me to place the key at the designated point in the interior. Sometimes a second push of the button works. Sometimes I just have to put the key at the point on the dashboard and everything works fine. Another funky thing is that sometimes, the auto-lock on the door handle refuses to work. Unlock always does. I assume that it's a capacitor so it has its own issues. The lock from the fob always does the trick.

So, Immobilizer? Does what? Why would it throw a fault? What should I experience? Here is the link from Ross-Tech:

When I get this it means my bat. is low in my FOB, and I put in a new bat. and it goes away:

I just had the key thing, door handle unlock is in and out so I ordered some batteries from Amazon just now. Thanks for the info.
