Default 2013 S6 Tachometer/Speedometer lights

The S6 (probably A6 too) has lights around the tachometer (RPM) guage that light up when you turn on the engine. The red line is also indicated by these lights - the red line is dynamic and moves based on the engine temperature.

Question - in various videos of the S6, I've seen the speedometer guage also light up when the engine is turned on. But on my S6, I see not such thing - the light don't come on or there are no lights. Is that normal?

Yes, it's normal as the default. With Vag-com you can flag it to do the needle "sweep" when the engine is started. It's very cool with the red LEDs and it feels like the car is telling me it's ready to go.

I think he's referring to the red lights around the speedometer dial lighting up. I had assumed all S6's had this, my A6 with the vag-com does the lights around the Tach, but not Speedo.

I know BMW's have lights around the speedo to indicate cruise control speed...are these lights a feature with the adaptive cruise control only or something?

Not sure what you mean about no red LED sweep on the speedometer. Your video shows it does both, exactly like mine after the Vag-Com sweep flag is set on my A6.

If you VAG it, you can get it. There is a pretty recent thread about a meetup in the NY area. If you dig it up, I remember there was a member on that thread who was performing VAG updates at the meetup.

Yea that's an S6 video someone posted on youtube...my A6 does only the Tach LEDs, cool that yours does both. In the VCDS software, I checked Needle test active to get the needle sweep...but unless there's another setting to also get those speedo LEDs, something is different between our cars.

I find it strange that would Audi bother to put in the lights around the speedometer and only enable the sweep via a VAG modification.

I have ACC which uses the speedo LEDs for the speed setting. Perhaps that's why the difference?

Adaptive Cruise Control is required to get the lights around the speedometer, the rpm lights are on all A6/S6 sd far as I know as long as they have the 7" color DIS.
