Hi,

When I am connecting the phone with USB, and use CarPlay, I noticed that
1) Navigation tab on my dashboard will now only display compass, but not the map
2) My Phone tab will display phone is not connected.

Am I setting things wrong or this is the correct behavior?

To answer question 1 - in my experience with Audi's and Apple CarPlay there is no way to get the Apple maps to display on the Audi instrument cluster. The phone, however, should work as normal.

I checked into what you're seeing, and I see the same thing. When my phone is connected via USB and CarPlay is enabled the navigation only displays the compass whether using CarPlay navigation or not. The phone tab also says phone is not connected. Seems like CarPlay overrides the Audi MMI.

The telephone section of the MMI & DIS is reserved for Bluetooth so since you are connected to CarPlay via USB then your phone is not connected to the car via Bluetooth is why you are seeing this message. Not familiar with the compass though, can you not hit the menu button on the steering wheel & toggle to the map screen? Since I have a 16, I do not have the factory smartphone interface option & only have the aftermarket CarPlay option installed which does not have this issue.

I checked today. With CarPlay active the only thing you see is the front display in the nav screen is the compass. There is no scroll option on that nav screen.

I’m in a 2017 A7 with MMI software 3237 and as you can see I’m in CarPlay & displaying the map in the cluster. What happens when you hit the menu button just right if the scroll wheel on the steering wheel?

I have a 2018 for reference. I tried several things, and still couldn't get the map in the front display when CarPlay was on. I only saw the compass and there was no scroll option to get to that screen.

If you switch it to map before you plug in your phone, then go into CarPlay, you can watch it switch on its own to compass? I’ll try and attempt this in a MY18 tmw.

Ok it seems that CarPlay maps (Google, Apple, or Waze) overrides the MMI nav. I had MMI nav active, and plugged in my phone (CarPlay active no maps) and I could see the MMI nav in the front display. When I made the CarPlay maps active, the front display switched to compass. Now even if you close out the CarPlay maps the front display stays on compass. You have to put in a destination in the MMI nav to get it to go active, and show up on the front display. The car remembers which navigation it was using last, and the CarPlay maps overrides MMI nav.
