This could be a bonanza for us TDI owners. If they don’t get a fix, Audi will pay me more than I paid for the car. Great investment

I got half earlier this week. The other half comes after the fix.

My understanding is they will pay an amount equal to what the cars were worth in September '15 minus any settlement money already payed out.

the settlement documents contain a schedule with the payments for each year, model and option packages. It will be quite a bonanza for many of us.

I am thinking the longer this drags out the more likely a buyback will be offered. VW/Audi just might want to be done with this TDI thing and move on. One would hope anyway.

The read I think many of us have is that the Sept. '15 buyback is separate from the settlement and will be over and above the settlement rather than minus the settlement money. Think of the settlement money as a fine that VW AG has to pay in addition to buying back the cars, if that happens.

The buyback values are included in the settlement documents and are based on the "clean trade vehicle values" as of Sept. '15, PLUS "restitution". For instance, the buyback values for a 2014 A6 range from $58k-$70k - certainly more than the market value of the car in Sept. 2015. I think it's pretty clear that the 50% payments for the "fix" that VW has made thus far will ultimately be deducted from the buyback values, if a fix is not timely approved. In other words, if the buyback value for my car is $58,000 and I've already rec'd $4,500 from VW, then VW would need to pay (or offer as trade-in value) the difference of $53,500.

I just want to add a data point on the Bosch settlement: I got a check for the full $1,500. I had my inspection around mid-September.

Not being used to reading legalese, I guess I will just wait and see how much I get.

VW is pretty sure they can fix our cars, however, the fix is supposed to be more intrusive than the newer models. Its true that the newer 2.0L have adblue and they were expected to be "easier to certify" than our cars. The settlement basically allows them a few months (at $500/month) to get through the process. I have no idea how long it takes for EPA and CARB to approve the modifications, however, if they don't have the paperwork in by early to mid Nov, I'd say we'll be getting $500 checks for each month's extension. CARB has in the past issued press releases when they've received paperwork, no press releases thus far.

It would be nice to think that VW would do us TDI owners a solid and buy them back, however, I strongly doubt that will happen.
