Keep in mind the warranty specifies that to be in force the scheduled maintenance intervals must be observed observed. Therefore, to keep the warranty in force, it calls for an oil change no less often than every 10K miles or 12 months, whichever come first. If you go every 7.5K, after the first one it will be harder to keep track along with the other things that need to be done per the maintenance schedule. Just a thought.

I simply reset my trip odometer every time I change the oil, then change and reset again when it hits 7,500. I really don't need the OD for anything else.

I do my own at 5k intervals. Once I did oil analysis and pushed my Lexus 460 to 7500 using Pennzoil ultra and at 80k miles it started to use a quart every 500 miles or so from not significant before that. I'll never push it again, it's not worth it.

I have an '06 A6 w/3.2FSI. I'm trying to get the max life out of my upper timing chain tensioners & guides. My car has 182k miles on it & I bought it at 151k miles. I change my oil every 5k miles & use castrol vw spec synthetic.
My doing it every 5k keeps me in close touch with what's happening under my hood & under the engine.
My goal is to make this car last as long as it can, hopefully, to at least 250k miles. So far, so good.

I am also firmly in the 5K oil change interval camp. To each his own and if over the years I own the car I've spent a few dollars I didn't have to it is not end of world in exchange for peace of mind. All I know is that the oil in my /15 A6 3.0T is looking very dark after 3.5K miles whereas the oil (dino, not synthetic) in my /04 TL and /94 NSX after 3500 miles looks very clean. Note that the TL is driven in exactly same manner/same commute route as A6. I acknowledge this is far from scientific and a Blackstone analysis may well prove out that 10K intervals are fine but I'm old school. The trusty TL now has 159,000 miles and engine performs as if has 50K miles. Oil change intervals on the TL are 3500 miles (dealer threw in free oil changes for life when I bought the car -- little did they know.......) and I guarantee you could eat your dinner off the internal engine components if it were torn down.

Which oil are you guys using? I'm using Castrol Edge 0W-40 European Formula which meets the VW 502 00 and BMW Long Life-01 specifications, so I have no qualms about going the full 10k miles as per the manufacturer schedule. A quick Google search for UOAs for that oil seems to show no problems either.

The pics in that thread of what the valves in a DI engine look like after some tens of thousands of miles are enough to make me sick. This technology as implemented by certain mfgrs is flawed and that is being charitable. Sometimes old school is best. Just my 2 cents. And FWIW, not sure that the 5K OCI is going to make all that much difference. Sounds to me like for those of us who keep the car north of 75-85K miles, there will be a necessary wallet opening event for a "cleaning". Not end of world but something could live without.
