Default A6 2.0 TDI Black edition auto MPG problems

Hi

I bought a 2015 a6 this month with 20k on the clock.

I was led to believe that the MPG should hit 60mpg if driven correctly.

I have done two long motorway journeys. Fluctuating between 60mph and 80mph. The best MPG I got was about 52mpg.

Driving around town at a steady 30mph pace in efficiency mode the best I have got is 45mpg.

I have turned off all the internal heating and cooling. I have nothing unnecessary being on that I know of. All the tyres are inflated adequately.

Has anyone got any advice as to why it might be low. or if this is actually the norm?

What is the fuel economy claim from the vehicle manufacturer?

I bought this second hand direct off Audi and was told this by the salesman.

From looking online the two sources below detail a lot better rate than i am getting

Source - Autotrader
Urban mpg 51.4 mpg
Extra Urban mpg 65.7 mpg
Average mpg 60.1 mpg
CO2 emissions 122g/km
Annual Tax £110
Performance
Engine power 215 bhp
Engine size 2967 cc
Brochure Engine size 3.0 litres
Acceleration (0-60mph) 7.1 seconds
Top speed 152 mph
Drivetrain Front Wheel Drive

Source - Audi site https://usedcars.audi.co.uk/usedcar/...pup&export=pdf

Fuel Consumption*
urban 4.7 l/100km = (60.1mpg)
extra-urban 3.9 l/100km = (72mpg)
comb. 4.2 l/100km = (67.3mpg)

I average 36 and drive in a very non-hypermiling way. 60 seems way too ambitious.

Before the A6 I had a 2013 passat TDI. The best I eveer did with that car - somewhat trying to get good mileage - was 52mpg. I averaged 42 mpg. The Passat had a 2 liter, was FWD, and was 700 pounds lighter than the A6.

Someone needs to sort out what that really means. He is apparently in Europe. Obviously not talking about U.S. measurements.

Default 2.0 or 3.0 diesel ???????

And he's reporting in Imperial gallons so his 60mpg would be close to 50 mpg in the USA.

I have a 2015 2.0TDi Avant SE and prior to that a 2012 one with the non-ultra engine. You don't say whether yours is an auto or manual, both of mine are manual. It is well documented on other more UK centric forums that the EU consumption tests are flawed (no cold start, car runs to a fixed cycle programme, ambient temperature is 20c and car can have almost anything not bolted down removed) and that is why they are being replaced soon with something more relevant to every day use. I am afraid your dealer was not being strictly honest with you when he sdaid that it would achieve 60mpg. Your consumption figures match those I get, although on a 400 mile round trip to Manchester from London I got nearly 60mpg. You will see the consumption improve as the air temp rises, diesel does not like cold air and also it activates the auxillary heater to warm up the cabin quicker placing an electrical load on the car. As to tyre pressures, there are 3 shown on the sticker, ignore the lowest setting marker Comfort with the handbook symbol as these are too low for the car and increase fuel consumption. It is also possible that since you got the car it has done a DPF regeneration and that increase your consumption significantly whilst it is happening
