A6 redesign next year?

Hi Folks,

Currently considering a 2018 BMW 540I or an Audi A6, but not interested in buying a car in its final model year (the BMW is in its 2nd year, which is the sweet spot in my opinion).

Does anyone know when the new A6 comes out? Any general thoughts on the 540 vs. the A6?

Thanks!
Brian

Yeh, but one consideration is that there are benefits to buying a car in its final model year. They've worked out all the kinks, and fixed all of the parts that ended up previously recalled. When you buy a car in its first model year, there is a lot of unknowns about what parts might later be identified as faulty. Just saying..

Agreed. Another plus with Audi is that in the final year they add as standard a lot of items that were options in the early years of the series run. This makes the final year (in this instance the C7 A6) a conceivably better buy in terms of pricing. Also, Audi's conservative evolutionary styling changes mean that the C8 A6 is likely not going to make the C7 A6 immediately look extremely dated.

That's why I had no qualms about buying my 16 3.0.

The current "rumours" are that the new A6 will be announced either at the very end of this year or more likely early 2018 (probably Geneva Motor Show in March). The new A8 which shares a lot of the common systems with the new A6/A7 is being announced this week. Assuming "Brian" is in the US and based on the normal lag between Audi's European launch and US availability I would expect it to be 2019 before you see the new A6

A month ago my sales guy speculated that we would not have the new A6 in the USA before late 2018. But it will be out earlier in Europe of course.

Just talked to my sales guy yesterday and he suspected the same...said the new A8 will be rolled out in the U.S. in Q2 2018, then he expected the A6/A7 to be after that (i.e. 2nd half 2018).

Beware that A6's have issues with rotors warping. Shortly after I traded in my 16' A6 3.0 the dealer had to replace all rotors. Hopefully they have a new supplier from now on.

New A8 looks absolutely stunning A8 On the assumption that the new A6 will get much of the same technology it should be a great car
