Default A6 TDI driving an HPDE Event

Any here do performance driving events with their A6 TDI? Can you share your experiences?

Default No, but there was one at the ACNA HPDE

I've never tracked my TDI, but at the Audi Club NA National event HPDE in Tacoma in August there was one that was being tracked. I never got a chance to ask him how it performed. I saw him on the 2nd day of the event as he was staging for his run, and he said he had to leave right after the run ended. He was with the Pacific NW chapter, so you might be able to locate him through the club.

Tracking a TDI is like trying to speed run a freight train

Any car works. Contrary to Internet lore, HPDE has very little to do the car.

Maybe I didn't ask the question correctly. My interest is in the performance of the TDI on the track, if it 'gives up' anything or outperforms the gas equivalent of say a 3.0T. I know what an HPDE is, what they do and all that stuff. Been in several dozen back on the day.

If you can keep the rpms between 2,000 and 3,500 you will be in the TDI’s sweet spot.

We have a couple of instructors that run diesel Jettas. They do pretty well, but I they are generally slower than the gas guys.
I test drove a 2014 A6 diesel a few weeks ago. I think it would be on par with my wife's gas 2.0.
I realize that isn't terribly helpful, but I doubt there are a ton of folks tracking A6's...nevermind diesels.

I have to politely disagree on the 2.0. We drove one for several days and were not impressed with the engine / driveability.

My A6 TDI was in the dealer for 5 days and they gave us an A7 loaner with the 2.0. It was pretty lame compared to the TDI. My wife commented about it right away.

It "felt" faster, because they have it tuned to open the throttle faster off-idle. So it feels peppy initially. The real test was passing tractor trailers and groups of cars on my regular commute. These are two lane roads, with light traffic. The TDI will double it's speed (or better), say 40 to 80 in the length of a tractor trailer, or a group of 3 cars. The A7 2.0 was seriously lacking. It would downshift and rev a lot, but would not push you into the seat or add speed like the TDI. I don't think it added speed much better than my 3/4 ton Dodge truck. I basically recalculated my passing, or wouldn't even try it.

To the OP. If you have the flappy paddle shifters, throw it in manual mode and shift just after the needle points vertical.

Thinking out loud there's no way, no how a 252 HP 2.0L gas is on par with the 3.0L TDI, in a similar chassis, perceived or not. Just sayin'. .02
