America the Beautiful National Park Grand Tour
I took my Audi A6 on a Grand Tour of several National Parks and Monuments in New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Arizona. 7,200 miles over 19 days.
The A6 was of course supremely comfortable, and I didn't have any reliability issues whatsoever.
This was despite:
- Frequent stops and restarts - 5 year old battery never failed to crank.
- 105F temps - A/C got the cabin cool quickly and kept it comfortable.
- 80 mph speed limits in TX and UT - the Audi felt rock solid at those speeds and beyond.
- 6,000 - 14,000 ft elevation - turbocharger gave ample boost even for overtaking going uphill on the Interstate.
I spent $566 on 220 gallons of gas (in high elevation states the highest octane available was 90-91) and averaged 32.8 mpg. I did the 55k mi oil change before I left and now at 62k, the MMI still shows the oil is full, so my 2.0T engine doesn't burn any oil.
Anyway, I'll let these photos tell the rest of the story. I use a Sony NEX-5 camera with a Zeiss 16-70mm F4 lens.
Carlsbad Caverns, NM
White Sands National Monument, NM
Pikes Peak, CO
