The problem was caused by the ECU. Changed the ECU and everything is back to normal. Just to recap, these were the symptoms I was having:-
1)Hard to start (no crank). Have to press the start button a few times before the engine starts
2)EPC error, engine checklight,etc
3)engine misfiring
4)harsh shifting
5)engine cuts off immediately after it starts (that was towards the end)

Hey man
im having the same issue with my car and currently I’m trying to change the ecu.
how did you replace yours? What’s was the process, you went through a dealer or a specialized Audi shop?
thanks a lot

hi,
I didn't go to a dealer as it was too expensive. The guy that I went to bought a used ECU and reprogrammed it. From what I understand, its a complicated process so before you start looking for a used ECU, pls find someone who can reprogram it. Also try to get the same part number or the very least make sure its compatible. Try Online VAG spare parts catalogue: Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Seat, VAG VIN decoder, etka online to check the part number.

Thank you very much my friend
I already tried finding someone to do it but I couldn’t find nobody in New York area. I just sent the ecu to a repair company and they told me there is a 90% chance of success so hopefully they can fix it.
thanks again for the help
