C7 A6 2.0 crisper everyday handling than 3.0?
I had a 2010 A6 3.0 and when I get my current 2013 A6 2.0 I felt the new car had crisper, more poised, less plowing everyday handling. I did not know why; I thought perhaps the new chassis was better, which I guess it is.
I had posted on this before but really had no clear point of reference and stopped discussing my view. Recently I drove two 2014 3.0 A6’s (I was trying to decide whether to trade in my 2013). In both cars the handling seemed more sluggish and heavier than my 2.0. I mentioned this to the salesman who said that the 2.0 is a more balanced car and does have a lighter, more “tossable” feel. The front/rear weight distribution for a 3.0 A6 is 55/45 whereas the 2.0 is 53/47 – this must contribute to the more balanced feel I sense in the 2.0. I am again finding this interesting since there is still some sentiment on this site that the 2.0 is not a real A6. If driving dynamics count, I guess it is. |
A comparison would require the same set-up. I.E. Sport suspension? Wheel Size? Tire size and brand?
Handling is also greatly affected by power so if you wish to "power out of a turn" then the 3.0T would definitely have the edge but the increase in up-front weight will also have a diminishing return and will exhibit under-steer. |

One other noticeable difference, MPG. The short-term trip computer on the 2.0T registered about 27 mpg during each way on my commute to/from work, whereas my TDI typically registers around 34 mpg each way. |

I drive solo 98% of the time. The other poster's comments re: the 2.0 being a slug when fully loaded is true as well. |
