CarPlay support for C7 11~15 and 16~17

There's a vendor that has adapted Carplay for pre-2017 vehicles. I didn't jump in on the initial group buy. I wanted to get feedback from other forum members first.

Per the thread it's a forum member that's sourced it through China. It does require buying new hardware.

Checking out this site, it looks legit and promising, but then again, you'd need to uninstall your MMI head unit and send it off to Sweden which sound expensive and risky..

Letter to my dealership:

Evan - still hoping for a successful resolution of this "no Apple CarPLay” issue.

I still believe it is only a software issue.

Collective wisdom says, however, if the solution does have anything to do with hardware (e.g., parts) it would be all about the MMI interface card.

As your parts team can tell you:

2017 Audi A3 etron without Apple CarPlay has an MMI hardware card part number 8V0857273P6PS, and cable harness part number 8V1971551D.

2018 Audi A3 etron with Apple CarPlay has an MMI hardware card 8V0857273P6PS and cable harness part number 8V1971551C.

Can your people or Audi USA confirm that trading out these two parts will enable Apple CarPlay?

Remember, General Motors figured out a way just months ago, to “enable” Apple CarPlay on their past six years of models, so it can’t have a lot to do with parts.

Top is 2016 and bottom is 2017. Part #'s are different. As far as the e-tron goes, there was an issue at the factory when the e-tron was being released and they were arriving without smartphone interface but the monroney was showing the vehicle was equipped. So Audi released a spreadsheet that we would enter the VIN and it would give us the necessary activation codes to activate carplay with the scantool. Unfortunately the spreadsheet only works for e-tron VIN's.

Seems as if there's a website that states the following about that retrofit kit:
Notes for retrofitting to Audi A6 (from 2015) and Audi A7 (from 2015):
- The retrofitting of the Audi smartphone interface is only available for models as of 2017

Not sure I understand exactly what they're saying here. Can our U.S. spec 2016's use this part?
