I bought a new, leftover 2016 Premium Plus TDI in June at 30% off list and love the car and have had ZERO issues thusfar with around 8000 miles on it now. I sought it out especially because it had the standard 18" wheels and no sport suspension. I don't care for the super low profile tire's ride and would gladly trade a little of the handling they sacrifice for the forgiving extra sidewall. If you find the 19" wheels are too unforgiving you can always try a set of 18" wheels which were standard equipment on the premium plus. I got the options I wanted (driver's assistance, LED lighting and winter package) and none I didn't. Could not be happier.

If you are concerned about the surging issue some have complained about post-fix then look for a 2015-16 model since those didn't have the same hardware changes and up until now I have not seen anyone with any year other than MY 2014 complain about this issue.

If you go over to the TDi forum you will see that the acceleration/performance issue also affects 2015. It is the main reason why I am waiting as long as possible to get the fix. Since there were very very few 2016 sold without the fix, nobody is really able to compare the before and after impact of the fix on the 2016. I am guessing that most people with a 2016 don’t realize how good the pre fix car was. My Audi dealer told me to delay the fix, or even skip the fix altogether, because every one of their customers who have had the fix performed has complained about it.

I have a '14 and honestly, I am not seeing any performance or acceleration issues with the exception of hesitation when you mash it if not in S mode. Put it in S mode (or dynamic mode) and the car flies just as it did before. Hell - on my way to work on Friday, I managed to do 45.7 MPG WHILE the car was in active regen cycle...

So.... maybe I got a unicorn

I have a feeling that climate and driving cycle plays a big role with the reports about the fix. Namely, colder climates and short city like traffic cycle increase the reported complaints, while warmer climates and highway driving decreases the reported complaints. I certainly have my fingers crossed that the fix goes well for everyone. I am looking forward to having the new warranty being triggered in 2020.

There may be more than one issue people are talking about. I am familiar with how people describe the car as having a "lag" between the time the pedal is mashed and it gets going. That seems to be the way a lot of modern cars are set up, probably to help with fuel economy in some misguided way. As the other respondent said, you can overcome that by driving in sport mode if it is bothersome. Personally, I rarely mash the pedal so don't notice that issue so much. I can tell you that when the pedal is applied smoothly and gradually I notice no hesitation if I then push down, like during an evasive maneuver or to go out to pass on a two lane road. It is really an "off the mark" hesitation I have noticed and it isn't even as bad as some cars I have driven.

The surging issue I mentioned had to do more with a problem during warmup when the engine could be heard to produce a rhythmic undulation in sound accompanied by a "surge" in power in certain RPM ranges. It goes away when the car is warmed up. That is something I have only heard two owners of 2014 MY complain about.

I typically go to 'S' mode when there's a blend/yield for traffic. Instantaneous response imo.
