The author of the article should be blaming the 39 owners who were too lazy to read their manuals. The E-key's operation is clearly spelled out and common sense would dictate it not be left in the car.

I cannot imagine doing that. It is like leaving the entry ticket in your car so a thief can drive it out of a for pay parking garage. One always takes such stuff with them unless they are dolts or too busy texting. Jeez!

I didn't know about this extra key. I'll look for it in minute. Good to know, thanks
Then again, my car doesn't even have a hole for a key. Is this what you guys are talking about or is the "extra" key a fob as well?

The emergency key is both a key that can unlock driver door and a fob. Place it near where the normal car ignition switch is in central console, depress brake pedal and press the start button, and off you go.

There is a small key symbol embossed on the front of dash - place the E-key near, then hit the start button. I keep m E-key in my wallet in case the fob stops working or I lose it.

The key you are looking for is a small black plastic key.
