PRA Codes will tell you what kind of brakes your car has.

1LN = 420x40
1LU, 1LW = 400x38
1LL, 1LF, 1ZK, FM0 = 356x34
1LJ = 345 x 30
2EA,2EE = 330 x 30
LA = 320 x 30

Anyone try the EBC RK series rotors? I was going to order the zimmermann rotors but EBC is another option as well.

EBC:

Front: RK1845
Rear: RK1846

Zimmermann:

Front: 100.3357.20
Rear: 100.3358.20

You don’t post your location and you don’t post which model you have but you expect an intelligent answer? Maybe all A6’s around the world are identical !

Great write up, just did mine and to get the rotors off without any force heat them up with a heatgun and they will almost fall off. You can hear them come loose once the heat builds up.

Sorry for that,
I did however post in a DYI 3.0 TFSI brake replacement thread. And yes all 3.0 T C7 have the same brake around the world.
Anyway its in the post office now, so I will know tomorrow.

Zimmermann:

One thing to note, the zimmermann rotors have their edges beveled so as the rotors wear out they are still easy to slide out.
The EBC and the oem rotors did not have the edge beveled so it created a really big border on the rotors and i had to pry the pads to clear the rotors while removing.

Great write up on pad replacement. I have one tip...... Use a hose clamp to lock off brake fluid from returning to the master cylinder via the ABS system with any contamination found in the slave cylinder when retracting the cylinder pistons. Can save lots of heart ache if your brake fluid has not been regularly changed or your master cylinder has piston seal that is getting tired.
