Hakka R Snow Tires on A6?
 

I'm waiting on delivery of my 2.0T A6 Quattro and I'm looking at things I will need to buy and one is snow tires. I've been partial to Hakka tires over the years (live in Canada) and am looking at the Hakka R's which I would have to get on 17" rims.

Has anybody had them on an A6? I have them on a Passat and a 99 A4. THe concern I have is that the Hakka R's have a "R" speed rating and a tire place expressed some concern that the A6 is a "Y" rated car. I actually see "H" in any specs I've seen.

Do you think it's a problem putting "R" rated tires on the A6? It's not like I'm going to be going 170 mph in the winter (or ever). I would prefer a tire designed for snow and ice and not necessarily a performance snow tire.

I live in Sweden and run my car on Hakka R during the winter months. I have a 3.0 TDI Quattro which I have 225/55-17 tires on. I have nothing to complain about, the car runs really smooth.

I had the same setup on my former BMW 3 series, which was rear wheel drive. I had no problem so I thought that it could become worse by changing from 2-wheel to 4-wheel drive :)

Iam using Hakka r 245/45-18 on my Quattro and they are great. Really recommend them

While I lived in the US I used Hakka R on both my 2009 A4 Quattro and a BMW 323Ci (RWD). Cannot recommend high enough, and that comes from a lot of driving experience in Northern IA, MI, OH, PA, NY, often in snowstorms or very bad conditions. Have also had Blizzaks and WinterSport in the past but IMHO the Hakka's are superior.

Anybody have an opinion on if 17" Hakka R tires would be better in the snow than 18"? Hakka R's that would fit this car are either 245/45 R18 (OE) or 225/55 R17. Personally think that the 17" would be better due to the narrower width and higher sidewall but then again, it would involve purchasing 17" rims. I've been seeing people complaining about potholes and curb scrapes and figure the higher the sidewall the better in winter.

It is always better to choose a narrower tire for better traction in snow. A taller side wall is also good for traction as the tire can adapt to the surface better.

I run 19" Hakka 7s on my S6 (basically a studded R) and absolutely love them. Yes,.they're not rated for the top speed of my car, but I'd have to be a lunatic to even drive at the rated speed. Go with the smallest wheel you can for the best snow performance.
