Door Handle key cover gone

My Passat had a near-identical door handle and that cap has no hole in it, designed to hide the lock cylinder. It can be popped off if the keyless entry stops working, and then popped back on. I was surprised my newer, nicer, Audi still had the open keyhole - how unrefined 8-)[/QUOTE]
Thanks for the info, yeah I saw some videos with the Passat handle and wondered the exact same thing about the Audi keyhole!
I have studied the pictured of that cap and the baseplate around the lock and I have no idea how that clip is going to work. Guess I'll go ahead and order it and find out.

So, thoughts on this regarding getting it painted. Color matching to my "fancy" phantom black should be doable by any old body shop?
Best to just buy the part, take it in, give them the paint code info and have them paint it?
Ballpark what you'd expect someone to charge for that?
Thanks

Items 9 w/ chrome, $83. You will have to paint to match.
Any autobody supply store can put color matched paint, with hardener, in a spray can for about $35 / can.

So the cap I need specifically has a hole in it for the key, on my A6 it is not completely covered, and that makes it distinct from the other 3 caps. What I don't see on this schematic is an item number specifically for the cap with the lock hole... Any help?
The cap that appears to be associated with teh lock cylinder (#11) doesn't seem to have a chrome option...
EDIT: OK, my bad, I scrolled down more and now I see the #9 that I think you meant in your original post.
EDIT AGAIN: Nope that still doesn't seem right. Totally confused...
Thanks.

on first diagram when you hover over it says with chrome, when you go to the actual item it says: "Description: Frm 10/18/2010. Without chrome." Also the picture on the main diagram shows a floating triangle which I assume is the chrome, but on the detail image that is gone.
Same deal on the audi site

this one at least shows the triangle on the detail (same part number as other site), but it also has this comment:
"Front Left; from 10/18/10 ; w/o chrome"
Shouldn't be this hard.

OK, I am zoning in on this part number 4H1-837-879-B-GRU and I think that the comment is just misleading.
Here is an actual picture! The only one I found on the entire internet...

Part came in seems to be correct including "chrome", cost about $75. Took it over to a bodyshop, they are painting it for me - $35.
Assuming it snaps right on, that is $110 vs the dealer quote of $550...
