"Motorway mode takes advantage of the large amount of light and optimized pages and apron lighting xenon plus pig launcher. Using sensors, a vehicle electronic system continuously analyzes the speed of the vehicle. After a short time above 110 km/h (68 mph), the system is based on a car ride and automatically switches from low-beam mode in motorway light mode. A special position of the aperture in the xenon plus headlights additional light is now focused by an aluminum reflector and thrown far ahead of the vehicle but without dazzling other road users. The sight is more than doubled: from 70m to 150m in low-beam mode, motorway light mode. This increase in visibility means at a speed of 130 km / h has a gain of 2 seconds to respond to objects in front of the vehicle can. Motorway mode thereby increasing the driving safety significantly."

I'm pretty sure all of the automatic headlight features being discussed in this thread require different hardware than found in NA models. Federal DOT regulations, costs for certification along with regional marketing decisions are likely the reasons they are not available here.

Yeah, it's entirely possible our cars aren't fitted with the correct spec equipment to enable these features.

70's:
US = incandescent. EU = incandescent halogen gas filled.
80's:
US = Dual halogen. EU = Sharp cut-off sealed beam halogen.
90's:
US = Sealed beam. EU = HID
00's:
US = HID. EU = LED
10's:
US = LED. EU = Smart Multi LED.

The US has too much bureaucracy to utilize the latest technology therefore it always lags behind the progressive thinking of the competition. Note:
The above rough outline of progression does not include the reduced wattage of US vehicles.
Infiniti was not allowed to use the multi LED system in the Q45 because the US law mandated that a headlamp must comprise of a single source of light but after numerous corporate meetings within the legal BS system, it was eventually changed.

Re: US BS and Bureaucracy. Back in the early days all aircraft were required to have a "Red Beacon that Rotated at 60RPM". In the 1960s High Intensity Xenon Flashers were developed that were several times brighter and so much more visible at long distances, than the incandescent bulb/reflector combination currently approved and in use. These Xenon lights flashed at 60 times per minute, but since they did not rotate they were not authorized as replacements for several years.

If anyone in the SAE or the NHTSA could drive then they would realize, as have the Europeans, that amber turn signals, Rear fog lights and the flashing brake lights are ALL safety issues but here in the US we won't get then for a few years.
I realize that VAG-COM can enable the flashing brakes under hard deceleration and that at least my A6 has rear fog lights but who is the idiot at Audi that removed the Amber turn signals and stuck on some red ones?

I am originally from Europe and I totally agree on the turn signals, amber are significantly more indicative than the red which is easily confused with braking.

Hmm, has anyone confirmed one way or the other, for US cars, if any of the coding affects the beam output and gives us some of the features that they gutted out for the NHTSA?

It's really a shame. The LED headlights look like really improved beam-pattern Xenon replacements, but the dynamic capability would be so nice.
