Motor Mount Replacement

I have a C7 2012 A6. The motor mounts are going bad. I have looked through the procedure and it looks pretty straightforward and a good job to do to save $1000 or so. But I have a couple of questions.

First, is it necessary to drop the oil cooler as the procedure indicates or can you do it without doing that? Not that big a deal but it makes it more of a pain having to catch the oil and replace the gasket. I'd rather not dump the oil if I don't need to. I just had a service interval done which included the oil change so a change isn't due.

Second, the procedure indicates that the retaining plates should be replaced along with the mounts. Those are around $30 each and it doesn't seem like a part that would need replacement. If you've done it, did you replace those?

Third, the left coolant hose only needs to be moved out of the way, correct? The coolant doesn't have to be dumped does it?

And Fourth, I see people have jacked the engine from below. I worry about damaging the oil pan doing that. The procedure calls for using an engine support bridge and threaded spindles to raise it the required 20mm. Couldn't you just use an engine hoist with a load leveler hooked to the 2 lifting eyes?

Thank you,

Scott

How many miles do you have? Just curious when the mounts start to go on our cars.

I am right at 100,000 now but it has been a while since they started vibrating. The dealer wants $1400 or so to replace them but I can buy the 2 mounts for about $400 to $450. The dealer said I have a long time before it starts damaging other things so at this point it is just annoying. It used to be so smooth and quiet and now it is noisy and rough from idle up.

I have a 14 with 42K miles, I have all 3 mounts replaced at 30K under warranty. But my indy shop just told me that one of them is allowing more play than it should. The car always had a little bit of rumble in it. I was told its because of the 3.0. I have the extended warranty but I think I may just pay for my indy shop to play around with it for a day and see what they find

2012 engine mounts

had my annual inspection int MO - the Audi dealer was doing a recall on the fuel line

they called out the inner control arms (all 4) and the motor mounts - I have 65K on the engine and 100K on the car

where do I find the procedure for the replacement? -

I do have a 1000lb bar the straddles the shock towers to support the back of the engine (used to do the torque converter on my 2003 A6)

The right motor mount began leaking at around 60k miles a few months ago on my '12 A6. I hadn't noticed any odd vibrations though.
