Default Need Help with Tires

Purchased a set of wheels 20 x 10.5 all around and wondering what tire size I should go with. Car will be lowered with a set of coilovers.

I am not sure if I can get away with 285/30/20 without rubbing? Place I purchased wheels from recommended I go with 275/30/20.

Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks & Happy Holidays!

Best,
Manny

OP, you don't give enough information: may we assume that it's a C7 A6 and does it have sport suspension? If you add coil overs then you will probably lower it some more so your options are limited.
It does seem a little strange that you bought wheels, don't know what tire size you want or whether they will fit.
Research after the wheel investment seems a little backwards?

Have you confirmed the wheels' offset will fit your car and will clear the brake calipers? Stock 20" wheels are 9.5" wide so your wheels are wider by an inch.

The standard A6 C7 20" tire size is 255/35-R20. You'll want to find a tire size that provides a circumference close to stock or your odometer/speedometer will be off, not to mention potential clearance issues. Use one of the online tire comparison calculators like this one:
Tire Size Calculator & Converter, Tire Size Conversion | Discount Tire
The tire sizes you mention are reasonably close in circumference but the 285/30 tires have a section width of 11.22" vs stock of 10". Might be problematic for clearance.

It won't matter if you have the sport suspension as the OEM 20" wheel/tire size is the same. However, as DB22 said, if you lower the car much further than the sport suspension using coilovers, you may run out of fender clearance. You'll also have to be sure a selected tire will fit properly on a 10.5" wide wheel.

What type of tire are you looking for, season dedicated or all season?

My apologies for the lack of information.

I do have a C7 A6 with sport suspension on the vehicle already, however I plan to lower the car slightly more with coilovers to get rid of the remaining gap in wheel well.

The wheels will fit, and the place I ordered them gave me options as far as tire size. They recommended 275/30/20 however 285/30/20 would fit but I run the risk of rubbing.

I'm leaning toward the 275 setup to be safe, but just wanted to know if anyone out there is on a set of 285 and if there is any rubbing.

Thanks again for your help!

Best,
Manny

I'd lean more toward summer tires, as I hardly drive the car in the winter which is why I narrowed my options to a 30 series tire.

I suggest you go with 275 tires, as recommended. You may be a little off on the speedometer/odometer, but it can be adjusted with vag-com.

I have 265-30-20 on my replica wheels with 9" rims, and they work fine, much improved handling with S5.

Your location might be useful too as some climates can get wet even in summer and the wider the tire, typically, the harder it is to clear the water out to avoid aqua planing.

According to Tire Rack there are no great choices in that size. However, there are a couple of OK choices. Here is the link. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...=true&filter=y
