Default Help, Hood Not Opening

Driver side latch is not releasing on my 2012 A6. Center and passenger side open up but the 3rd latch won't release. Anyone with knowledge on what I need to do to get in there and release it manually? Thanks for any help!

id close and open again to see if you can do it, the latch may need lube. Otherwise maybe see if you can lubricate it a bit (if there is room while partially open).

IIRC there are two latches that are released by a cable on the outside edges. The center is a safety latch with the manual release. The hood is aluminum and you may be able to wedge something to hold the passenger side up while squirting penetrating oil towards the drivers' side latch.

I would check my car but I dropped it off today for a parking lot ding repair. From this picture, the latch is between the grill and the headlight so you might be able to go in from the front. Good Luck.

The lever that pulls the cable is removable from inside car, perhaps you can get more cable pull travel if you disassemble it in driver's footwell. May have to remove A pillar trim, and then there is a retaining clip that holds the lever to the splined rotating shaft.

I recall first hearing about the latch cable system in the A8 section. There was a thread about attaching another cable that ran to the wheel well. The C7 should have a similar set up.

Maybe you can snag the drivers side Bowden cable that runs from center latch coupler and get it to work? Pic for A6 C7:

I have the opposite happened to me recently where the passenger side hood latch wouldn't latch. What I found out was that if it is really cold outside, the spring in the latch assembly will freeze up. This causes the hook in the latch assembly to stay open. I have to use a heat gun (or hair dryer) on the latch assembly to warm it up and it latches afterward. So for those who have hood not latching during the cold weather, try to warm up the latch and see if that works.

The latch assembly is P/N 4G0823509C, but I think there is a new revision 4G0823509D that might fix the spring issue. If you need to buy a new latch, EBAY has the older revision latch for about $20.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I was able to remove front tire and inner fender well (lining). With the correct socket and small extension loosen the 2 bolts holding the latch in. Once the bolts were removed hood came right up. The cable had disconnected from the latch. Re-connected and tested a few times and buttoned everything back up. Total time was less than a half hour.
