Pros / Cons 2011 A6 Prestige or 2012 Premium Plus / Prestige
Hello,
I am doing research and getting close to buying, not leasing, a 2011 A6 Prestige or a 2012 A6 Premium Plus / Prestige. I want the 3.0T engine.
I understand that there is a generational cut-off at 2011 and a new one beginning in 2012. I became interested in this car because I checked out a high mileage (89,000K) 2009 A6 Prestige 3.0T for fun / curiosity and I was extremely impressed with the packaging of the car. At an asking price of $19,999, with likely some wiggle on top of that, I just thought it was a steal of a value. Thus began my research.
My issue is that I feel I have plenty of leverage on a 2011 and will come in around $25,000-$28,000 for a car under well under 60,000 miles. On the other hand, a 2012 A6s typically have an asking price north of $35,000. I am finding it difficult to justify going from a loaded 2011 to a mid-level trim 2012 for $8,000 to $10,000 more. My heart (2012 A6) is battling my brain (2011 A6).
There are definitely a few incremental feature upgrades that I like: WiFi, adjustable ride type, console & MMI layout.
Has anyone else had to make a similar decision over a late C6 vs. early C7 and what helped persuade you?
1) How do you feel about the looks of an S Line package in 2011 A6 vs non S Line package in 2012 A6 Premium Plus?
2) I hear a lot of people love the ambient LED cabin lighting, can someone elaborate on that feature?
3) Is wheel size noticeably effecting ride quality? The 2012 A6 Premium Plus wheels are not visually appealing to me. The 20” wheels are awesome in my opinion for factory wheels.
4) Does the loss of the paddle shifters in 2012 to an option from a Prestige feature in 2011 bother anyone?
5) Driving impressions year-over-year?
6) Other surprises like increased maintenance costs or complications with Do-It-Yourself maintenance?
