Yesterday, pulling onto an empty freeway, I gave the A6 some full throttle acceleration. I drive conservatively enough that an occasional Italian Tune-Up should be good for it. [:convenient rationalization:]

Was a little surprised to see a black XJ keep up with me. Felt like he was enjoying a little spontaneous car comparison...but he wasn't able to close the gap between the cars.

He slowed down a little before I did. I eased off as I got into triple digits and coasted back to an appropriate, mind-numbing....but fuel-conserving speed.

Black Jag pulls up and starts checking out the A6 pretty carefully, especially the badging.

Was an XJR. Specs for it showed 500hp. I thought he might have just been hanging back if he hadn't checked out the A6 so intently--first in the lane to the right, then the lane to the left. Assuming he wasn't able to close the gap, might have been the Audi's 8-speed trans. He might have had more hp, but not able to use it as well with taller gears.

Nothing to draw a firm conclusion from....but interesting.

An R would have had no trouble having his way with you if he wanted. I have a close friend who has had a few of them. He now has a 2016 S8.

Actually, since it wasn't a new one, and searching back through performance reviews for earlier 200X cars that looked similar, that's not quite accurate. A new 6 figure xjr, I agree. But, as an older XJR, probably significantly less than 500hp.
