Default Today I learned: Turn B&O "Volume Leveling" down

One of the first things that I did when I got my A6 with B&O was turn both Surround and Volume Leveling near the max. Surround obviously made the radio even sound wider and more spacious as opposed to directly coming out of speakers. And Volume Leveling from the manual description sounds like dynamic noise compensation, which sounded like a good thing.

I just, for the fun of it, tried turning Volume Leveling down to around 1/3 of the way. I could not believe the improvement in the dynamic range of the sound. Volume Leveling appears to achieve a similar effect to "Night Mode" on home theater systems -- it seems to stop producing extraneous sound effects and focus on making the "center" channel content sound clear. It might be good to use for talk radio or listening to speech with really noisy passengers, but it noticeably affects dynamic your music sounds.

Perhaps some people with Volume Leveling cranked way way up might be getting a less than flattering impression of the B&O sound system.

Hmm on mine it's in the DSP settings, and is called "Volume Leveling". The effect it seems to achieve is more of what you'd call normalization -- it increases the volume of low volume sound effects and decreases the volume of high volume ones, making everything sound flatter and duller.
