Rough upshift from 1 to 2 in heavy traffic
Hello guys, I just picked up my 2013 Moonlight Blue 3 days ago. Drove to NYC and noticed very rough upshift from 1st gear to 2nd. This happened in heavy traffic in which the car is rolling at about 2-3 mph, I lightly stepped on the gas pedal, then released (due to stop and go traffic), but at the same time, the transmission upshifted to 2nd gear. The experience was similar to someone just rear ended me.
Has anyone experienced similar issue?

I haven't seen this in traffic, but have at very low speeds in a parking lot, mostly when the car is cold.
Using sport mode might help, 1st and 2nd are so close together, it also might help to go to paddles and lock in 2nd.

I have a 2010 A6 with a 6-speed Tiptronic tranny and have experienced this a lot. My dealer has done several tests and the final conclusion they reached is that this is an adaptive transmission and unless it is trained to adapt to a more aggressive driving style it will be confused if an old fart driver like me suddenly presses the transmission at a point where it had been trained to think I was going to be going slowly, so it hesitates and basically chokes itself back to the lower gear then quickly up to second, so it feels like a “thunk” – like you say being hit in the rear. I don’t know if this is blowing smoke, but that is what I was told. I still have it 28 months later (today in fact stuck on the Major Deegan expressway at rush hour). Anyway, my 2 cents. I don’t like this and it is something making think about a different brand of car when the lease is up – just thinking at this point.
