Saying goodbye to my '14 A6 TDI and hello to...

an S5 Sportback. Had a great 4.5 years with my A6 TDI, which I thought I'd keep a little longer, but after having it in the shop for a week to replace a motor mount, couple broken exhaust studs and an exhaust seal (the first problem(s) with it in 67k+ miles), I decided to part ways with it. Driving a fairly loaded brand-new A4 loaner for a week pushed me over the edge after seeing all the new tech, and experiencing that "new car" smell again. Got a great deal on an in-stock S5 (which had more a few more options than I probably would've ordered), and a decent trade-in allowance on the A6, and sealed the deal today after a test-drive. Pick her up next Sat. - here are the specs:

S5 Sportback, Florett Silver on Black
Prestige
Cold Weather Pkg
CF inlays
DAP
S Sport
Nappa leather
19" Cavo wheels
Audi ring beams

I was a little hesitant about moving to a smaller car from my last 2 A6's but found the S5 to be roomy and the sport-seats were great, extremely comfortable. While I loved the torque of the TDI, the S5 blows it away, and sounds GREAT (a much different aural experience than the A6, to put it mildly). Although I have the sport-package on my A6, the adaptive suspension and sport differential on the S5 are in a different league - I immediately noticed the sport differential doing its thing when taking a long, sweeping highway on-ramp. The tech in the S5 is again another huge step up from the A6. Anyway, I could go on and on, but suffice it to say, I'm looking forward to moving on to the S5, but not so much the more frequent visits to Shell.

We are going to miss you. Best of luck with the new wheels.

Congrats! That’s a great car and it’s great we’re finally getting the SB in the US. If the interior dimensions are anything like the B9 A4 it should come pretty close to our C7’s. I was genuinely amazed by the amount of space in the back seat when I was being driven in the latest A4, it really seemed very similar to my C7.

Although I doubt it, I may wait and see if Audi brings the RS5 Sportback stateside :D Enjoy!

Wow, that’s awesome. Thanks for sharing! Looks like that will be a very serious contender for when my current lease is up next year. I suspect the surprise will be the RS Q5 as I don’t see Audi bringing a performance wagon stateside, but who knows!! An RS6 would also definitely make it on my shortlist.

Just was an FYI, I was at an Audi gathering where Scott Keogh spoke several years ago. He was asked which Audi was his personal favorite and he replied the RS4 Avant. In the interview, he references that the secret car is number one on his list, so just maybe......

And to Audi40, that S5 SB is a great package. It was my plan "B" if Audi was forced to buyback my A6 TDI. I spent quite a bit of time in an A5 SB while my D2 S8 was being worked on, and the package with the 252 hp 4 cyl is really great. Lots of pep, great handling, just the right size and lots of carrying capacity. 2 more cylinders and 100 more hp means more Smiles per gallon. Good luck.
