Another 6 months and another update on the Audi A6 3.0T gas engine action. The law firm handling the individual lawsuits (as well a party to the class action) responded to my request for the latest info. They said that the judge had provided another 60 day extension early this month to the parties of the action. This usually means there could be settlement negotiations going on. Perhaps we will finally hear something concrete in January (or not - the judge could allow for yet another extension). If there is a class settlement, one can participate in the class or hold out for an individual settlement with HEYGOOD, ORR & PEARSON (see the link in the first post if you haven't contacted them yet).

Is this for all 3.0, or just certain years?

Nevermind, I found it. It is 2012-2016 models.

I have a MT S4 2015. I have seen some websites say all S4's contained the cheat, and other websites say that only the Automatic Transmission 3.0L cars had the cheat.

To be honest, I am unsure why VAG would put the cheat on automatics only. Has it been proven the cheat is not on the manuals?

Case in point: The diesel cheats were on both automatic and manuals. I know, I had a Jetta TDI MT that VAG ended up buying back from me.

This alleged cheat is different from the diesel issue. In this case, the software apparently was designed for the auto transmission to delay downshifts when the car was on an emissions test rack and the steering wheel was not turned. This resulted in lower fuel consumption than when the tranny did normal shifts. A manual transmission would not be affected in the same way.

Anyone have the info on this lawsuit yet? i had emailed Hagens Berman the lawyers handling the suit and i haven't gotten anything back from them. the email was over a month ago. i was wondering if it was going to be like dieselgate where they were going to buyback the cars or if they were going to try to say we will fix it and then your car winds up being slowed down in the horsepower range because of emissions. i don't think the latter situation would be fair to the people that have purchased the car specifically for the rated hp and then being told well we are going to slow it down and you already bought the car so here is a few thousand back and just deal with it. plus the other fact of the vehicle would definitely not be worth as much after the supposed fix with everyone knowing that the car is not putting out the advertised hp anymore. i have owned quite a few vehicles in the last 15 or so years and i haven't ever had to deal with problems i have with this supposedly finely tuned German sedan. its really sad because i have always wanted a German car and now that i have had one its recall this and recall that. since owning this car i have had to have 2 recalls performed (pods and a fuel rail?) and i cant think of any other car that i have ever owned having 2 in a row almost right after one another no less. i might have had one during the course of ownership of different vehicles and those was far and few apart. i was also reading up on the carbon build up issue, that is another pretty scary topic that i still am not sure if my engine is effected or not with. everything i have read and i really haven't found a direct answer for it. some say Audi added a second port, some say thats only in Europe. its really mindboggling that the "truth in engineering"slogan is the exact opposite of what Audi wants to base their reputation on. Seems to me that the truth is there really isn't that much engineering in these cars.

Performance is not a factor with the 3.0T gas engine "cheat". The only thing affected would be overstated EPA ratings derived from the faulty testing. It's also possible the software was already updated a year or two ago when your car was in for service. It's doubtful those of us affected will see a large windfall. Audi is strongly resisting claims of wrong-doing on this one. I'm not spending any award just yet.

As to recalls, two is no big deal. I've owned over 30 new cars over the years and every one of them had at least two or more over four years of ownership.

Regarding valve carbon build up, Audi's FSI engines share the same issue as many other brands by virtue of the basic design.

Sounds like it would be some sort of small cash settlement probably based on the MPG difference over time?

UPDATE: There are essentially two different law firms that are handling this action. The class action firm assigned by the court is MotelyRice.
Heygood Orr & Pearson is the firm that has filed individual lawsuits for each signed up owner represented. Heygood will try and recover greater damages than a class action settlement or award. Alternatively, each owner can accept a class action settlement or award if desired. From what I can tell, both actions were filed (and finally allowed by the judge) in Dec 2018 or Feb of this year. Now we wait. Some more.

Final update:

I received an email form Heygood, Orr and Pearson. In further testing, it has been determined that many of the models/engines did not have the emissions defeat device as originally reported. This apparently includes the C7/3.0T models. Therefore these do not qualify for the class action. Unfortunately, these further tests could have been done 2-3 years ago so those of us not affected would have known not to bother. (including my thread....).

As per their email, here are the actual VAG models that qualify for the class action:
