I would tell them they have a choice. They can use the TSB and do the recommended treatment there under warranty or you will bring it to a local AC shop (which there have to be lots of there) and have them do it and you will present them with the bill to pay for it. If they balk tell them that's what small claims court is for and you are perfectly willing to let a judge decide it.

so attached is what they finally decided to do. the TSB number is different that what I had posted so im still waiting to hear what exactly they did. anyone have the details? they really took the time to put "its no defect in there". !!

the smell is gone for now. waiting for confirmation on best way to use ac so that the smell does not come back - the told me to run heat for 15 minutes before shutting off system and to only run ac in recirc mode.....

I have access to the /13 version of this TSB which does involve a chemical "fogging" of the evaporator. Apparently the /14 version came out recently (June 2018) and I cannot access it from the Mitchell DIY database. If you would like to see the /13 version just PM me and I will send you a pdf.

thanks for the offer - I got the /13 - just trying to see what the difference is. they seem to be top secret about it - all they tell me is that its up to the dealer to share and the dealer says its not allowed to be released.

My guess is it is pretty similar as they have been prescribing a similar fix for years.

UPDATE: So the smell is back. Had procedure done on the 21st of sept and stayed odor free until the 29th. Now seems to be back. Did check holes in bottom of doors - no water came out even though they were covered by the rubber gasket. 2 holes per door if I remember correctly. Don't know of any other drains besides the 2 for the sunroof and 1 I found in front of the firewall - but that one looks to be more like a pass through for wires(there are none) rather than a drain area.

out of ideas and Audi closed the case and won't respond to emails or messages and the dealer doesnt respond either. too bad. I guess ill have to dry one of those foam sprays up the drain line. having trouble figuring out which brand is actually able to clean and KILL the potential mold and mildew and not just add deodorizer.

I used this one in the past on a Honda car and it worked. It doesn't add any fragrance so you will know if it works or not.

tks. I think this is actually one of the ones ive looked at - doesnt say anything about killing mold / mildew though and the cs person I talked to couldn't tell me. weird. im trying to find a foam I can spray in to the drain line that will get to the evaporator. im hoping that that will be enough to coat and kill on both sides of unit.

I had previously recommended a visit to a local auto AC specialists shop. I am sure that in your area there are lots of them who deal with this problem and can probably take care of it for you.
