Software Update Questions

Hi all,

I will be taking my A6 in for its 25k come Tuesday and wanted to have any software updates to the transmission/MMI/other done. I had it in for the 15k and they kept it overnight while giving me another 2014 TDI. This TDI would engine brake going down hills and would downshift quicker when coming to a stop. Mine will often drop to idle revs while braking, and doesn't offer much in the form of engine braking going down a hill. When comparing it to the other TDI, it feels like mine is in neutral when you let off the accelerator. So, I looked at the MMI in both cars ant the software versions were different. I think I may have a picture somewhere, but I guarantee they were different.

My questions are:
1) Are there any known software updates for the 2014 TDI's for anything? MMI, transmission, etc?

2) Would I have to pay to have them updated? First car ever owned where these things are important, so I've no idea if dealers update for free.

Thanks

The MMI has nothing to do with how your transmission shifts or your car drives (other than changing drive select settings). If your MMI is at sw 715 or newer then there is no update available (even though current cars have 733 or even newer). For MMI sw older than 715 you should be able to get an update to that version. The transmission update may change how it shifts and the dealer should install automatically it if it is applicable to your car.

Do the annual services (Audi Care or whatever the pre-paid service package is called) include free software updates for the MMI and nav maps each time?
Every year, when I brought in my 2012 A6 for the annual service, my local Audi's service department said there were no free updates available...
I feel like I missed out on bunch of updates now...

No, since they are NOT free updates. They are updates are covered under warranty but you MUST complain about something being wrong with yours. MMI Example-complain about an intermittent "popping" noise from the system. They will not do an update on their own merely because it results in improved sound quality.

So.... if you are still under warranty, bring it in and complain.

And map updates are never part of the MMI updates, never covered under warranty or any maintenance plan, on the pre-2016 models that is.

I've searched the forum and cannot find an answer to a couple of questions related the the map database.

Anyone know the frequency of the map updates and how much it will cost in the US? I have a 2012 A6 and according to my dealer there are no map updates available. My stand alone Garmins get 4 a year. Why doesn't Audi update the database, lots of roads added, closed, changed over the course of a year never mind 3.
TIA
