Thoughts on 2016 A6 CPO (former loaner)
In the market for an A6 CPO and came across a 2016 A6 3.0T P+ CPO with ~3,800 miles offered at ~$48k. Went into service in November and dealer has had in on the market since late March. Sales guy said up front that it is a former loaner car and that the dealer always sells its loaners after 3,500 miles. I walked around it, combed through the inside and test drove it today -- everything seems fine. Carfax is clean (not surprising since it is a loaner). I am a former owner of an A4 2.0T P+.
Is there anything I should be inspecting since it is a former loaner car? Anything particular to ask the dealer? Really like the car and the pricing is good but am a little skiddish on account of it being a loaner.

If they would cpo it that would be a really sweet deal as you would get a ton of warranty which would help you with resale too. There's really nothing to beware of. Some say people treat loaners poorly but at 3500 miles I really wouldn't sweat it. There's no way anyone could drive my car much harder than me is my thought process.

I was also seriously looking at a loaner A6 CPO with less than 4k miles for $49k, but ultimately went for a new A6. A CPO would save you about $7-8k, which is significant. And as bhvrdr stated, you got plenty of warranty with a CPO anyway.
However for me, I plan to keep my A6 for the long run and perhaps some day hand it over to my college age kid so knowing that my A6 came BRAND NEW with 2 miles on it; that I am its only owner, and its longevity would me mostly influenced by me and how I drive it and care for it was worth the extra $$$.
But again, that extra saving of $7-8k is nothing to balk at. It's really come down to what is more important to YOU.

Last year I bought a 2014 A6 Premium Plus CPO loaner and have had no regrets. The $$ savings alone made it worth it. With that experience, last month I bought an 2015 A3 Cabriolet loaner - again no regrets so far.

I bought a '15 with 4700 miles on it..it was the dealership manager's car. It came with the CPO. I got a great deal on it and this one you're considering seems like a similar scenario. I've bought my last two A6s like this, virtually new with low miles and CPO at a huge discount to buying a new one with less warranty. These are great cars, but they depreciate like a rock, especially in year 1.
To me, a buying strategy like the one you are considering with this car makes a lot of sense. Let someone else take a big part of the depreciation hit and leave you with a great car with more warranty than a new one at a price significantly lower than you would have paid if it were brand new. Those 3500 miles saved you probably $10k on the price of the car, and the CPO warranty is certainly worth an extra few K.
If the car checks out and it's the color combo and options combo you like, seems like a no-brainer to me.
Just my .02 of course.

Look at bolts, hinges, sheet metal alignment for any evidence of body work. Major concern with loaner is abuse of a cold powertrain. I'd negotiate for a zero deductible on powertrain unless that is already included with the CPO (not familiar).

CPO is a great cost saving, but you don't get to option the car exactly the way you want it. If you are going to keep it long term you may want to spend a couple of extra bucks and custom order it.

Currently, there is an $85 deductible for each visit under the CPO warranty. A dealer cannot modify anything outside of Audi's stated coverage when it come to warranties (unless Audi approves a one time customer satisfaction waiver for a specific incidence).

Do not trust CarFax. Go to DMV for accident reports. CarFax if a business prone to corruption for their own profit. I know people who bought cars with clean Carfax reports that later resulted in accident records found via DMV records.
