Obviously if you buy a car and try and sell it in the first year of ownership, you can expect to lose your shirt, and your pants for that matter. Heck, if you think you're going to sell it in the first 3 years you'll lose a ton. Most of your depreciation occurs when you drive it off the dealer lot. That's why I research the hell out of a vehicle before I buy, because unless you have a lot of money laying around, you better make sure you're getting the right vehicle.
I understand your dilemma though, my car is only 6 mos. old and sometimes I wonder if I should have gone a different route. Then I get out and drive and realize I love my car. There will always be something a bit better, but I'm just going to enjoy what I have.

When I traded in my 2011 A5 with less than 5000 miles last year for my A6 I got about 25 cents on the dollar for my extended warranty and wheel insurance. Good luck.

However, IMHO, owners of the S6 will not feel the same pressure to go to an RS6. Maybe I say that as an owner of an S6 that would be kicked out of the house if I traded in a year.... ;-)

I traded a BMW two years old in for a 2012 Q and requested a refund on the remaining balance of the extended and wheel warranty and received 3/5 of the value back from BMW.
