VAG scan: Cylinder misfire - spark plug and coils
Hi guys!
I just wanted to get some advice. I got a code for misfire in cylinder 4 as you can see from my VAG scan.
I want to get on the road.
Also, should I worry about the other codes?

I just wanted to get some advice. I got a code for misfire in cylinder 4 as you can see from my VAG scan.
- Should I just change out cylinder 4 coil?
- If that doesn't resolve it then cylinder 4 spark plug?
- Should I just change out everything coils & plugs? Spark plugs were changed out 30k ago.
- I've heard that its common to change out coils in Audis and VWs.... common issue with misfiring. Any truth to that?
- Is there a DIY video to do this?
- Looking at the car from the front, which one is cylinder 4 in the engine?
- I often do shopping on Amazon...anyone heard of QYL coils? Reviews got 4 stars from Audi owners.
I want to get on the road.

The plugs should be fine. Probably have a bad coil but to test it out swap coils cyl 4 & 5 (If you are in the US cyl #4 is the driver's side bank closest to the font of the car, number five is right behind it). Clear the codes and start it up again. If the misfire moves to #5 replace the coil, if not swap the plugs. If that doesn't work you might need to take it somewhere. Make sure you only change one thing at a time and clear the codes between tries.

I have had a misfire on my TT RS in the past which VAG scan confirmed was cyl 4 on a 5 cyl engine. So I was thinking it was a coil pack, but I removed the spark plug and found a portion of the ceramic surrounding the center electrode was missing, so the spark was happening inside the plug. Check your plugs first. Cyl 1 should be nearest the fanbelt? Possibly the colour of the plugs will let you know which one was misfiring?
If the plugs look good, then swop the coil packs around and run your engine with VAG scan running, if the misfire moves to another cylinder, then its the coil pack that is faulty. You can do the same with the plugs, though with 30k on them, just renew them.
I was using Denso but have now changed to NGK

DB22, you might want to re-read the scan data...Its a 3.0T. Op mentioned changing spark plugs so the engine probably isn't a diesel either.

UPDATE:
So I wanted to get on the road and didn't want to wait for my order to come in. I wanted my car up and running for the long wknd. Since I knew it was a misfire in cylinderDealership and Bosch plug from Pep Boys. Everything is running smoothly again. When I get my parts in in a few days, I'll replace the other 5 cylinders new coils and plugs. Anyone know the size screw for the coil pack harness. I just checked and they're missing. I'm guessing tech never put them in. Sucks.
