I experienced this one first hand. spend a lot of time driving in Colorado Springs. Fuel gauge hadn't been moving too much - was just under half a tank.
CEL had come on. scheduled to take it in. decided to fill up before heading to dealer. put over 19 gallons in. figured I might have had a quart of gasoline left in the tank.
looks like the float caught on top of one of the hoses in the tank

@dassq5 When you bring it in, make sure you have 1/2 tank or less. My dealer told me they ask you do this as it makes it easier to work on the float, pump and tubes and less likely to splash out when opening the tank (access is under the rear seat and tank can be slightly pressurized when first opening)

@kumar_shah@yahoo.com letters wont go to to owners until May, so parts probably wont be available till then.
Mine had this issue but was '"fixed" earlier this year (before the notice was sent out) with a zip tie holding the vent hose away from the sender. I guess they can fix it the right way later this summer once the parts are in.

Is it possible that this recall fixes a permanent empty indication on the fuel gauge? I was low on fuel and filled up, did not reset the short term mileage which I normally do. The gauge continued to display low fuel and miles to empty continued to drop after filling and when it got to zero, I got the red fuel gauge flashing. The trip display still works.
TIA.

Fuel Sender Recall - Repair Date
I have had the fuel sensor malfunction twice, once with approx. two quarts remaining. I do not drive past 375-400 miles elapsed since the last fill up without stopping again.
I checked with the local dealer service manager, whom I have known through three A6s. The parts availability date has now slipped from November to the first quarter next year.
As this is an NHSTA official recall he said they cannot sell any used A6s covered by the recall. About fifteen+ are on his lot waiting for the parts. $$$ cost each month.

Currently running into this issue with our 2020 A7. Until the formal fix for the recall is available- are you just monitoring the odometer of when to fill up your gas tank before it runs out of fuel?

yes, Most reset the trip odometer at each fill up. I personally run about 375-425 miles between fill ups.
