Matrix Headlights on A6

Hello,

Does anyone have an update when the matrix headlights will be approved for the US?

Also is it really just a software switch to turn them on for the 2019s?

thanks,

Hank

Waiting on the gubmint is like watching paint dry :D
The comment period is over and I guess they have to make their decision but I have no idea how long that will take.

Supposedly yes it is just a software switch, especially if the US agrees to the European standards like Canada is apparently doing. But if they decide to be A holes and make up their own rules then Audi might have to completely code special software or something.

If you are dying to follow along with the docket for proposed rule change here is the link. As AdamNJ says it’s still pending final decision

Lots of Drive In Theatre owners oppose the rule. How many of these are even left in the US?

That's ridiculous. The Matrix function can be turned off with a pull on the stalk.

From the responses that I read from the drive in theater people, most said they were okay with ADB headlights as long as there was a way to manually turn them off and/or that it didn't work at low speed. We have the ability to turn them off manually so in our case we were be prepared for that if the law makes that required.

A lot of the comments from manufacturers indicate that the rules being proposed by NHTSA differ significantly from the rest of the world. That would mean re-engineering for the US market. Let’s hope they “see the light” and adopt rules that won’t make it unfeasible for the US market.
