No it isn't locking because the hooks are broken.

New OES Genuine Camshaft O Ring 5 Series 7 3 6 BMW x5 E70 Z4 E86 Z Z8 E52 x6 E71 | eBay
This is the closest I came to finding something like it for sale its for a bmw but I almost want to buy it just to see if it fits. Would it be ok if it fits the same way?

I'd doubt it because if it did fit the vendor would list the part to be compatible and they don't.

Yeah I thought about that too but thats $250 I don't want to spend. Is either that or college books. lol

Before you go any further make sure that the cam adjuster housing is not scored by the broken ring tabs, don't ignore this advice because those ring seals hold back oil pressure to adjust the cams and you will be dealing with one of the codes on the cam service bulletin that I presented a few threads ago.

Refer to the end section of the pdf regarding the cam ring orientation and the stage of repair you are in, Good Luck!
