'04 A6 3.0 - Red Oil Pressure Light On and Off
#11
I didn't actually check it but when I brought it to the Audi dealer they did and said there wasn't an issue and the pressure was good. However, I can see the value in checking that again considering what I'm seeing is intermittent. What is the best way to do that? I saw you said tap into the oil pressure area, but would I simply remove the current oil pressure sensor and put this in line? Is there any particular gauge I should get or will any do?
Let's say the oil pressure is fine, what would be the next thing to do? I just want to look at this from all angles.
Thanks again

If the oil pressure is fine then the idiot light is incorrectly lighting up.
The oil pressure sender tells the idiot light to light up.
Replace the oil pressure switch in that case.
Yes, the easiest way is to remove the oil pressure sender and put in an adaptor/fitting for the mechanical oil pressure gauge. You need to know the metric size and thread of the sender to get the correct adapter for the mechanical oil pressure gauge.

Finally!!!
I finally had the time to do the work.
Oil pressure is fine.
Replaced oil pressure sensor with a new one from Audi (although they did give me the wrong one the first time).
I've put about 75 miles with no light... I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks again for the help!
