1995 A6 Quattro with Transmission problem-- advise??
I'm looking into puchasing a 95 A6 Quattro and was told that the transmission sometimes slips between 2nd and 3rd gear. And was told that this is not a big deal... is it?
Has any one else had this problem?
How expensive of a fix is this?
From my search on the forum, seems like many comments have been made regarding the reliability of the older A6s.
Any comment or help would really be appreciated.
thanks!

No big deal? Yeah... RIGHT
Run. I'd never buy a C4 A6 with a transmission that doesn't work properly. $4k-$5k for a replacement... possibly more.
General reliability on the C4 A6 is good, but the transmission isn't indestructible.
BTW, post pre-'97 messages at the link below, from now on.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a6100/

maybe its just hunting?
All non-computer controlled trannies can hunt a little, esp. 4 and 5 speeds. But a little hunting is one speed. Slipping between is super bad.
What's the difference? Hunting is realtively rare and shouldn't only happen when pedal pressure or the slope of the road changes. Slipping is just plain a malfunction and will occur more frequently and even in steady state.
As with Muhammad I wouldn't buy the car without getting the tranny checked out first, since the downside is huge.
