Default 2.7T to 2.8 swap

I have a good 2.8 V6 out of a 98 A6. I am considering dropping it into a 2.7T car with a bad engine. Question is, are these engines similar enough to make a good swap? Can I run the 2.8 with the biturbo setup, and will the computer know the difference? I would end up with a 2.8T if the swap can be made. Any thoughts?

Default No, the 2.8 runs higher compression, is a 2 bolt main block vs. the 2.7T's 4 bolt mains...

Major differences, and the ECU will not recognize the difference. Good way to waste a lot of time and money.

Thanks Carson- is it worth completely stripping out the 2.7T and replacing it with the 2.8? I had my 2.8 rear ended, and subsequently totaled, and a good engine. there is a biturbo with a bad engine close to me, and the car is in good shape. Are there more issues then just a remove and replace?

Default If you did that, just make the car a 2.8 NA, transfer over the wiring harness and all associated

engine parts from the 2.8 donor car if you really want to do this. Otherwise, if you want to build a bastard 2.8T, you're in for some compression lowering (either via new pistons or compression reducing gaskets/head spacers), connecting rods, and while you're at it you may as well do the connecting rod bearings too. It all adds up.

Will all the 2.7T parts bolt up to the 2.8? Yes. But do you know the condition of the 2.7T engine's components? If it wasn't maintained (and with a blown engine, the chances of that are high) it would probably need turbos soon.

The mod of choice for the 2.7T guys is to take a set of 2.8 heads, port them and bolt them onto their 2.7T engine. Not many people do it the other way around.

Default You might be better off fixing the 2.7....

that's a ton of work, and probably a bunch of unknowns....Press is just pulling your leg.
