Default 2.7T misfire

I have a 00 2.7T 6MT with ~85k miles and the CEL has gone solid on it. I used a generic diagnostic tool and it pulled up with "Mass air sensor signal low", "Engine misfire detected" and "Cylinder 4 misfire" codes. I assumed a misfire would drop a flashing light but it is solid yellow.

Is there a common issue which would trigger all three faults or are there two seperate issues here?

Default Clean MAF and look into misfires

Misfires are usually plug wires, coil packs or ignition coil-per-cylinder on the plug, if so equipped.
The MAF problem will probably turn the CEL on solid, I think. Misfires generally cause the CEL to flash. Common Audi problem......

Default replacing coil pack

Does anyone know if this Revision "R" coil pack works with 2.7T C5 A6 models from before 2002, or do I have to buy the more expensive, older version? And can I buy just a single different coil pack and install it with my current ones, ie. OEM mixed with aftermarket?

My 2001 A6 2.7T has a coilpack that is bolted on... you should only replace like with like.. Are you sure your Coilpack is push in and not a Bolt on??

You're right, mine are all bolt on and are not interchangable with the push in type. I pulled my fourth cylinder coil pack (which was a Beru) and when I went to get it replaced at the VW dealership, the mechanic told me that the older bolt-on Hitachi packs never fail and that the problem would be the Power Stage Output module on top of the airbox.

So I went back and swapped my fourth cylinder (driver's side, closest to the radiator) coil pack with the fifth (one behind it). And the trouble code was still for the fourth cylinder. So then I took both Power Stage Output modules and swapped those and yet, I still get the same trouble code.

What else could it be and is there a better way of testing for it? Or am I just doing something horribly wrong?

Are you sure you're clearing the codes?

I'm not clearing the codes but shouldn't the failing part initiate another trouble code on the new cylinder? I'm not getting any more codes than just the fourth cylinder that I started with.
