just because there arnt clouds of smoke doesnt mean its not burning it. Car getting up to proper temp? Stuck open thermostats dont let the rings expand fully and oil consumption and wear occur. Crankcase ventalation system could be having a problem and causing excessive oil consumption. 1.5 quarts in 2k miles will not make smoke. It might just be coincidence you changed the oil and consumption increased.

I went thinner. Edge (real edge, Gold bottle, not syntek) 5w30. Not ideal weight, but a rally excellent base stock, and much better BP and stock purity specs tan the T6.

I will do a UOA and see how it performs after 5k-6k miles.

I would greatly prefer edge 5w40 or similar, but they are inconvenient to get.

for the record, in my other car, which sees use more like your 2.7 turbo i would guess, i use either Syntek or Mobil1 10w40 with HTHS > 4.0 and really solid high temp performance. I've also been known to mix 50/50 15w50 with 5w30 or 0w30 to yield 7.5w40+.

It will be interesting to see how the numbers show. I'll also post UOA for the boxster after 10 track days and 3k miles on syntek 10w40, when i get the sample.

True true. And, actually, the cats will mask any burning oil even if it would be visible

I would guess its going by the valves. It is a VW product after all.

im just scared of using an NON synthetic, although i liked the valvoline premium blue diesel (15w40) but abandoned it because it is not a full synthetic. i thought t6 was HTHS >4? i know VPB was 4.2HTHS
