Default 2.8L misfires VAG Com alternative

Hello all, I have a 1998 A6 Quattro with the 2.8L 5 valve. Having misfire issues like many have. Replaced the sparkplugs, plug wires and a new Bremi ignition coil. no luck. I have a scan tool but I guess I need to get a VAG Com tool?? I see "Blue Driver" bluetooth diagnostic tool and am wondering if this is a good place to start, will it work in place of the VAG Com tool? If not, what is a good VAG Com tool to get for the casual mechanic? I will likely work on a few of these over the new couple years.

Ross Tech or Ross Tech Lite. Need a Windows laptop. This scan tool is Vag specific and will cover all the systems like transmission control module, ABS, etc. The generic scanners will only cover the minimal basics mostly related to check engine warning light. Ross Tech will pay for itself after probably only one repair. You purchase their connector cable then you will be provided a subscription service to allow you access to their software online. Because of the intricacies of VW/ Audi you need VAG specific scan ability.

OK, Sounds good. I will order one now. Too many choices when you search on Ebay or Amazon. Thanks for your reply.

Same applies to replacement parts. Be VERY careful buying replacement parts from Amazon or Ebay. They are usually cheap Asian knock offs and you have fitment or performance problems. There are a ton of aftermarket suppliers for parts that will save you a lot of money compared to the dealer and the also have better return policies than what you will get on Amazon and Ebay. Many of the aftermarket have OEM parts as well as other manufacturers products.
