Default 2000 A6 2.7t no boost and no smoke?

I found a A6 2.7t listed for sale not too far from me for a reasonable price, the car is real clean but has 160k on it, I have not seen the car in person yet but the car supposedly runs great no smoke and is drivable but just has no turbo boost? Since their is no smoke I would assume the turbo's are ok and maybe a stuck waste gate or something
any ideas? I know around this mileage the turbo's tend to fail but in my experience with turbo's in other cars they smoke!

News to me. Based on my experience, they rarely fail...but when they do it is not at any specific mileage.

I'd start with VAG-COM. If you can pull codes, you might get an idea of what is wrong before you commit to buy. Output tests help too. Could be a boost leak or a bad N75. Stuck wastegate would we really odd and would only affect one turbo. You need to find out what "no boost" means.

thanks, this is what I was thinking, Highly unlikely the turbo's are bad. I am told the car drives fine just has no boost and no power. but also the car does not smoke at all. if it smoked or leaked oil badly I would probably run from it. If I take my Vag with me this will help my decision on the car but can also hurt negotiations! the car is at a small dealer they have a service center but don't know Audi, sounds like they looked at it and gave up, they are saying bad turbo's!
I have seen some Saab's eat turbo's in the past where they melt off the turbo impeller vains and still don't hardly smoke, this is my biggest fear since I really don't want to get into a turbo swap right now!

I think that depends on what you tell them. I'd do a full scan - you know there will be all kinds of codes if they haven't cleared them out. You can use that to negotiate. If the news is good and something is obviously the failure point, don't share.

I scan every car I buy if possible. The very first thing I look at is Readiness. If the readiness codes are not all set, someone cleared code recently and may be hiding something.

Might want to consider doing a compression check too.

thanks,
I may go look at it today if I can get a Ride!!
Yep, I sold my car Tuesday night, hadn't really planned on selling it but well, the offer was right so here I am with no wheels!! funny thing is Tuesday afternoon their were 5 cars for sale I was interested in which is why I said I would sell mine. Wed Am 3 of them were sold and the other 2 gone by the time I was able to get time to go look! I guess I deserve it though! so maybe a 2.7t is next......

well I bought the car and got it home. runs perfect until you are under load and try to push it, then it surges/ cuts out etc.. no boost

codes I got are
17861 exhaust gas temp sensor 1 (g235) open or short to Plus
I am not familiar to this sensor any tips here??

17965 charge pressure control positive deviation

17704 Error in Mapping Cooling system (check temp sensor)
I assume this is the coolant temp sensor???

17521 o2 sensor B1S1 internal resistance too High

17539 O2 sensor B2s1 internal resistance too High

16487 Mass Air flow (g70) signal too High (intermittent)

the mass Airflow meter was just replaced and I have the old one, I assume I need a coolant temp sensor
But what about the first 2 codes anyone have any info on them. just what is 17965 refering too?

thanks, this is my first 2.7t so any details would be great!!!

Start by checking for boost leaks. Sounds like you have a big one.

Check the throttle body boot it tends to crack and tear.
