Default Broken Transmission value?

Is there much value in a car with a bad transmission. I have a 2000 A6 4.2 with around 150,000. In the last year and a half I have done the timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt, both cam tensioners and axle seals. Everything works on the car, the display doesn't have any bad pixels. All electronics work, seat warmers, etc. It has the upgraded, sport sway bars and suspension. The upgraded 5 spoke sport wheels. It also has a GIAC engine chip.

What might the value be of this?? As always, I appreciate everyone's help!!

I buy cars like this all the time. My 99 A6 2.8 I got for 400$ with a bad transmission. For a 4.2, and in nice shape and some maintenance on the engine, probably 500-700$.

Yes…about 1,000. All it's good for is a manual transmission swap. Of course, it all depends on what someone will pay for it…a rebuilt transmission installed is anywhere from 4-6K…I had a new one put in my 02 S6 for about $6K at 107K miles…the car now has 120K miles on it and the stealer just told me it's worth $5-6K trade in on a new 2015 diesel A6….so there's the numbers for the DC/MD/VA area…YMMV.

Yes, I could maybe might sell the 02S6 for $10-12K for the right buyer…mine has relatively new cats, transmission, new painted front clip (new bumper, LF fender and new hood) and new headlights and some new bits in the front suspension, but still…I'm not holding out much hope for selling it and it's still a fun drive.

Think OP could get a used trans from Shokan for $1500-2K and put it in himself?

That would be how i would fix it. Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market is a source too. Man they are proud of those v8 transmissions, probably because they all fail and nobody fixes them. Problem with Audi's, once they are dead, the value is just gone.

Could call German Transaxle see what a rebuild costs. I just got a quote for one for a passat for 2400. I would expect a quattro V8 one maybe 3k-ish

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm not sure what I want to do. Fix it and look to sell, or just sell it as is and take the loss!
