2001 A6 2.7T slower
Did anyone else notice the DROP in performance for the 2001 A6 2.7T!? The 0-100km/h has increased to 7.2 seconds. Horsepower has dropped to 230 bhp, and "...Maximum torque of 310 Nm is available between 1700 and 4600 rpm. The immense power flow is continuous through to the maximum rated engine speed of 5800 rpm..."

Those are european numbers
I believe that the A6 2.7T in europe may have always been 230 bhp. I do not think it will be 230 bhp in the US...the only reason why they might do that in the US is if they roll out the S6 in the US with 310 bhp (V8 4.2)

2001 A6 2.7T slower: European 2.7 T had never more...
I can confirm that the European A6 2.7T's had always only 230 hp / 310 Nm. 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) is 7.1 sec (Quattro 6 sp.) and top speed is 245 km/h.
However, the new Allroad 2.7T has 250 hp and the S4 over here has the 265 hp motor. I don't know why these differences exist. Pure marketing reasons?

Look at S6 and 4.2 numbers
AoA must have insisted on 250HP to go against the E320 (225) and other hot cars that sell well on these shores.
The 2.7T in Europe has always had 230 (235PS).
I can only think of two reasons:
The more likely one is that AoA was afraid that the 2.7T was too fast compared to the 4.2. I would say they were right. The 2.7T beats the 4.2 and matches up solid against the $60,000 S6 (euro spec, same speed on Auto, 0.3 secs slower on stick).
The less likely reason is that they only wanted to/could qualify one engine in the US for emissions or only wanted to stock one set of ECUs or something. By reducing the S4 from 265PS to 250HP and upping the 2.7T from 235PS to 250HP, they made the two engines identical except for exhaust.

The cars shown in Switzerland are European models...
and configured for the European market.
The 1999 2.7T had 230 bhp in Europe and it is 230 this year and it will be the same next year. The numbers you read about are not for the US market.
