2001 A6 Xenon Headlight Assembly Questions

A casual search of the forums did not result in a clear answer for this. Apologies if I needed to search better/more.

My A6 was hit by a random person who was rude enough to not leave a note. Due to my own stupidity, I seem to not be covered for such an eventuality.

The front starboard/right/passenger quarterpanel (right name? The part that surrounds the wheel) got nicely dented. Because it got dented toward the front, it's no longer flushly-connected to the headlight assembly.

The mechanic claims that the headlight assembly is A) technically broken; and B) is one-piece that needs to be replaced. He's quoting around $350 for this.

I'm trying to see if I can find a used headlight assembly for this; when searching the web, I've been a bit hampered as occasionally I've seen headlight assmeblies listed for A6 '1995-2002', and I'm a little doubtful Audi was using Xenon headlights back in 1995.

So the short question is:
A) Is it true that this is a one-piece part that needs to be replaced 'en-masse'?
B) Does anyone have the OEM part number for this handy?
C) Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I could find such a thing?
D) If I'm being quoted $350, am I likely to find it for less?

TIA,
-roy

Here is a pic of the whole unit. There is a lens repair kit available but that is just the lens. Hope this helps a bit. No part number listed in my Bentley CD Rom.

Remove both Torx bolts (T30) -1-.
- Remove interior Torx bolt (T30) using 1/4"-Torx- bit insert and extension.

Note:

If necessary, use magnet to remove bolt.

- Disconnect multi-function harness connectors for headlights.
- Turn headlights -2- toward center of vehicle and remove from chassis toward front.

By "lens repair" do you mean the flat-ish cover? Or, the actual lens inside?

Roy...you've got mail.....

Here are some part# that you might need for Audi.

R: 4B0-941-004BF (passenger side)
L: 4B0-941-003BF (drivers side)

or...

R: 4B0-941-004AT (passenger side)
L: 4B0-941-003AT (driver side)

If you need to have the entire HID housing replaced, it will cost you $600+ from the dealer. See if your insurance will cover the entire repair (quarterpanel and HID housing)? A $500 deductible might not be a bad alternative.

You can also sell the broken (but fully- functional) housing on eBay and probably get $200 for it. There are lots of folks who stock pile these HID parts (not stolen of course) and sell as part of conversion kit.

Good luck!!

Is it possible to replace only lens cover with Xenon? My driver's side was scratched (badly) and I was told at the dealer that the whole unit must be replaced. ($850 Cdn)

Looks like there are clips that hold it on, but I've not seen it sold separately. Anyone find themselves able to replace just the lens?
