Default 2001 Audi A6 Pre or Post Facelift? 02/01 MFR Date

I am reasonably certain I have a prefacelift car but after ordering some fleabay bumper grills that go where the fog lights are and having some fitment issues I want to make sure I'm not mistaking.

My car shows a manufacture date of 02/01 in the drivers side door, I also do NOT see the chrome trim ring around the lower middle grill (the one in the bumper below the grill in the hood). This leads me to believe I've got the older prefacelift car.

These are the grills I ordered.

The trouble was that they attach a bit differently than the originals did and are certainly lower quality. If anyone has a better suggestion please let me know.Thank you very much.

Travis.

Yeah, if it's a North American version, it's a pre-facelift.

(pre-facelift - 98-01)

(facelift - 02-04)

(Note how the hood surrounds the grill on the pre-facelift and on the facelift the grill goes all the way down to the bumper.)

(4.2/widebody - 00-04?)

I guess they weren't ready to re-design the A6 in 2002, and since the 4.2 already had the look for the direction they were heading with the wider grills, this little refresh was all the narrow body versions needed to keep pace with the 2002 release of the B6 A4 & D3 A8.

Fenders, bumper, grill, lights and even the sidemarkers are all different on the narrowbody facelift.

As far as the grill fitment goes, I'm not sure what the exact issue is on yours. But it's not uncommon for there to be fitment issues with ebay parts.

Sometimes you have to "make" them fit. I don't know where you're located, but you can always opt for used fog grills if you can find them.

Junk yard maybe?
